We are a community of “once alcoholics”, our families and social workers committed to an alcohol free world. Our community has no hierarchy or barriers of caste, class or religion. Anyone who would like to contribute to an alcohol free world or anyone who desires to attain “Freedom from Alcohol” can join our group. We are currently based in Kottayam taluk of Kerala State.
Social workers of MADYAMUKTHI are volunteers from different walks of life who envision a better future for our society in an alcohol free world.
“Once alcoholics” are those of us who were dependent on Alcohol. We had lost health, wealth and character. We were then called wretched, irresponsible,and antisocial. Our families and friends had suffered because of us. But, we are fortunate to have come across social workers of MADYAMUKTHI. They spent their time and money to save us from the clutches of alcohol. Now, we have conscious control over our mind; we lead a happy and peaceful life; we spend quality time with our family & friends and we work hard to achieve our goals as well as our dreams. We also work with social workers of MADYAMUKTHI to save alcoholics. We want to let them know that there is hope and peace beyond their present gloom. We integrate their family members also in the process of reforming them.
“Once alcoholics”, their families and social workers attend MADYAMUKTHI meetings regularly. “Once alcoholics” speak about their past, renew their promises and share their happiness; social workers provide updates on their anti-alcohol campaigns; and together, they identify alcoholics who would need their assistance. MADYAMUKTHI meetings play a major role in their fight against alcohol.
MADYAMUKTHI partners with other NGOs and like-minded people in their fight against alcohol.
Fight against alcohol has three dimensions :
1. Influence government policies on alcohol regulation and prohibition
2. Create awareness on alcohol and drug abuse
3. Provide de-addiction support to alcoholics
